Donation of School Supplies
What: Basic school supplies for displaced students
Where: Alumkulum Primary and Nursery Schools
Why: A refugee camp was set up in Alumkulum village, with most of the displaced children attending the village's primary school where we had previously built classrooms. Since most students had fled their homes, carrying only the most basic necessities on their back, many of them lacked the most basic school supplies. Thale MacRostie, mother of team member Kendall MacRostie, set to work hand sewing pencil pouches, filled with school supplies and other gifts for the displaced students. The personalized gifts, among other items, featured pens and pencils representing the Universities of all of the team's volunteers. Other school supplies, such as notebooks and paper, were supplied by other donors and distributed along with the handmade gifts. All of the students of Alumkulum received supplies, and surplus was given to children at the preschool that serves the village.
