Dear Friends,
Heavy fighting in Sri Lanka is now drawing to a close. However, the toll of the violence has come at an enormous cost. Over a hundred thousand civilians have been displaced, many of whom no longer have homes to return to. Tens of thousands are still severely injured, and much of the infrastructure of northeastern Sri Lanka has been completely destroyed.
Unfortunately, roads to the worst affected areas and large refugee populations remain closed to both media and humanitarian organizations indefinitely.
Without help, tens of thousands of the war's victims will remain trapped without even basic medicine, food, or sanitation.
Because of our years of experience on the ground, demonstrated neutrality, and dedication to helping the innocent civilians affected by conflict, we have been specially cleared to travel into these affected areas on an emergency humanitarian mission.
We have been asked to begin the reconstruction of basic medical facilities in the Mullativu area. This project will fill a critical humanitarian gap. According to current estimates, over 20,000 civillians in the area are without access to medical facilities. We have been cleared to begin planning reconstruction efforts and preparing equipment shipments into the area. Once we have made these initial preparations, the project will commence.
However, without immediate financial support, we do not currently have the resources to undertake this emergency project. For this reason, we are asking for your help in this vital mission to serve the innocent people most victimized by the conflict.
As a nonprofit registered in the United States, all donations are tax deductible. More importantly, we oversee all projects personally--and pay our own airfare to Sri Lanka out of pocket. There is no better way to ensure that your dollars reach the ground and improve the lives of innocent civilians in Sri Lanka. All projects are planned and implemented alongside local leaders and community members. Furthermore, we actively strive to hire local labor, which maximizes the impact of our work. Each dollar spent not only helps with reconstruction, but also helps support local families and businesses.
As our project progresses over the course of the summer, we will send updates and photos of our work from the field. Please include an email address with your contribution so we can keep you posted on the full details of our work.
Thank you for your generous support. We have added this project to our work this summer out of both unique access and extreme urgency. It is important for us to secure funding as quickly as possible so we can firmly commit to the work and begin the project immediately.
