Kallar Primary School

What: Rehabilitation of school building and construction of additional secured indoor space.
Where: Kallar, Batticaloa District
Why: The Kallar area was badly hit by the 2004 tsunami, and also received many internal refugees fleeing conflict zones further north. This school was particularly overcrowded, and those facilities that did exist were in poor repair. By rebuilding a set of classrooms which were in an unusable condition, we provided the school with a durable building which will give many years of service. The additional secured storage space was requested by the school teachers and principal, in order to protect and extend the lifetime of the school's resources.
When: July and August, 2007
Who: Ruwan, Gereon, Nick, Sam, Rajiv, Margaret, Cory, school faculty.
